Description
Description
The Abacus White St Thomas Clay Grogg Stoneware 12.5kg is a robust and versatile stoneware clay designed for ceramic artists, students and studio potters. Formulated from selected low-iron clays and reinforced with mesh-graded grog, this clay body offers excellent structural strength, workability and reliability across a wide range of ceramic techniques.
The addition of grog provides improved stability during forming and firing, reducing shrinkage and helping prevent cracking in larger pieces. This makes the clay especially suitable for hand-building, sculptural work and larger ceramic forms, while still maintaining good plasticity for wheel throwing.
Firing to a pale buff or off-white colour, this stoneware clay provides an excellent neutral base for glazes, slips and decorative surface techniques. Its balanced texture offers enough “tooth” for controlled shaping while remaining smooth enough for detailed work and finishing.
With a broad firing range between approximately 1120°C and 1280°C, the clay is suitable for earthenware and stoneware firing temperatures, giving potters flexibility when experimenting with glazes or firing schedules.
This clay is widely used in studios, educational environments and professional ceramic workshops, offering dependable performance and consistent results for both functional pottery and sculptural pieces.
