Description

The Abacus School Buff Kiln Clay 12.5kg is a reliable and versatile stoneware clay body ideal for educational environments, ceramic studios and beginner potters. Made from selected Shropshire and South Staffordshire fire clays, this clay includes a fine graded, dust-free grog which enhances strength while maintaining a smooth and workable texture.

Its balanced composition provides excellent plasticity and control, making it suitable for a wide range of ceramic techniques including wheel throwing, modelling, hand-building and casting. The clay’s smooth body allows for easy shaping and finishing, while the added grog improves structural stability and reduces the risk of cracking during drying and firing.

When fired, the clay develops a buff to buff-grey colour, creating an excellent neutral base for glazes, slips and decorative surface techniques. It performs consistently within a firing range of approximately 1120°C to 1280°C, allowing it to be used across both earthenware and stoneware temperature ranges.

This clay is widely used in schools, colleges and community studios due to its forgiving working properties, dependable firing behaviour and versatility across different ceramic projects.
