The Abacus Sanded Grogged Buff Stoneware Clay 12.5kg is a durable and versatile stoneware clay body suitable for a wide range of ceramic techniques. Produced from selected fire clays and blended with finely graded grog and sand, this clay provides excellent strength and workability while reducing the risk of cracking and warping during drying and firing.

The inclusion of grog improves the structural integrity of the clay, making it particularly suitable for larger pieces, sculptural work and hand-building techniques while still maintaining good plasticity for wheel throwing. The slightly textured surface gives the clay “tooth”, allowing potters greater control when shaping and detailing forms.

When fired, the clay develops a buff to warm buff colour, providing an excellent base for glazes, slips and decorative finishes. It performs well in both oxidising and reduction firing conditions, offering flexibility for different kiln environments and ceramic styles.

With a broad firing range of approximately 1120°C to 1280°C, this stoneware clay is suitable for both earthenware and stoneware firing temperatures, making it a reliable choice for schools, studios and professional ceramic workshops.
